Baby P. Changes have to follow!
You might know recently if you read my blogs, that I had encountered previous problems with Social Services over the rescue of a 15 year old girl that our organisation helped get into a place of safety. The Social Services Department in question was not best pleased after I critised them for not placing this child on the “at risk register”, and continued to allow this child too be raped, assualted and mentally abused by certain individuals.
After several attempts and writing letters to the Councils Borough Councillor, Social Services soon saw the light and placed her in care. (I was told at that time, children are better kept with their parents, i’m sure that this is not true, I truly believe its down to money!! we are placing money before the safety of our children. As for the current Procedures and Guidelines set down by government, it must change, as Social Wokers cannot do there job properly due to so much red tape and boundries) just like little Baby P. case. I see that that very little has changed with the old system of Social Services in place, yes I do get frustrated with this child protection department, however until these crappy guidelines and procedures are dealt with by government, you will be seeing more kids like baby p being let down, I ask then, when do we see change for the better?? (How many more times does this government need to see before there are more child abuse deaths and cruelity).
Many thousands of children are still being killed, abused and damn right neglected by our UK Government that have drowned our child protections laws, allowed so much red tape within child protection that leads to incompetence of our child abuse system. When will our Government see that the damn system they have in place is doing more harm than good.
Social Workers should be able to do there Job professionally and without all this red taped procedures and guidelines, I beg the question? what happens from here?

when i watched this on the news i felt so sick this poor innocent child who done no harm to anyone was treated in such a way that no child i agree with joe that social services should be charged after all this child was on their at risk register why wasnt more done

it makes me sick how no one is ready to accept the responsability for what happened to this little boy!! it seems now there is no one that these poor innocent children can trust or turn to, something has to change, maybe this stupid goverment should be putting more money and resorsces in to a social service system that works instead of wasting our money on other things!!there should be more visits by health visitors, and children should be checked head to toe! if parents have nothing to hide they would be willing..
you would think with todays technology they would be able to look further in to things.social services neglected there responsabilitys th baby p and those concerned should also be punnished, they should not work in these positions if they them selves are capable of child neglect..

What the hell is going on.
In this day and age we can`t protect our own children.
I am a Paramedic and my perfomance is checked on a regular basis if I do not meet the grade I loose my job.
So how many children have to loose there lives before something is done.
Social services need long term change not a white wash of an enquiry and a quick fix.

That poor little baby!
I am a mum and am so paranoid, why arn’t these social workers the same? Its beggers belief, they befriend the parents and stuff the kids, i am seriously thinking of becoming a social worker, these kids need our HELP ASAP!

I was going to become a social worker but given there bad name less people are wanting to become one, instead i am doing a child physcology course and hoping to become a child counsellor, having been brought up in a violent household (my step dad) i already have the feeling of what children feel themselves, social services are disgusting there’s a parent around my area who is a alcholic and also an heavy drug user she has young kids one whom has just got out of hospital due to injuries her mother has caused yet when neighbours report this to social services they won’t do anything due to them saying that we has a community are keeping an eye out on the children!!!! something seriously needs doing about social services before more children are killed

I can’t believe I read in the paper last week that a parent was jailed for smacking a child when the abusers of Baby P and others go undealt with! It says it all really how screwed up the system really is.

I think if social services has to visit a family more than once, drastic measures should be taken straight away. I’m 16 years old and I could run social services better. Baby P was so beautiful too, how could any human being want to hurt something so small and gorgeous, many people try for years to have children and those wickid people abused and took for granted their baby.
I hope they rot in prison, and I hope it haunts the minds of social services forever.

Hi I sit here in disbelief at the comments that have been made. I fully support that there are failings with ALL agencies working with children but it seems that Social Services are completely scapegoated without individuals having full knowledge of what is actualy going on. I believe that the death of baby P is tragic and completely unacceptable and should have been avoided at all costs. However there are lying and abusive parents who will do whatever it takes to fool and cover up their abuse. Mr Peters you know only too well after having read your book of what parents are capable of doing. It’s time to stop this witch hunt of social workers who are tied to policies, proceudres and shit timescales and start targetting the real culprits who are the government officials who put these measures in place. Only when they listen and only when they change the politics and ridiculous policies will social workers be able to do what they passionately want to do, and that it protect all children both in need and at risk of harm. Mr Peters I beseach you, change your tactics from personalising individuals who do care and want to protect to attacking the government officials who put unrealistic measures into place.

i agree with ure commnts about baby p but i have social services involved with my 19 month old daughter they have now split my family apart me and my daughter live with my mother in law and my husband live with his father really i think that this what they have done to me and my family is diabollickal as any changes and assessments that thhey are having to do know should of been done at the beginning not starting in febuary this year. but on the other hand they should be more acessable and more considerate for people and their feelings.
